Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas:
Long Live the
Pumpkin Queen
Pumpkin Queen
For Long Live the Pumpkin Queen - an illustrated adaptation of Shea Ernshaw’s bestselling Nightmare Before Christmas novel - I collaborated with Dynamite Entertainment, Disney, and Tim Burton to develop the cover art and interior pages. My directive was to capture the spirit of Nightmare’s world while adhering to Disney’s brand guidelines, tying back to the prose edition, and ensuring seamless integration with the story pages.

My Approach
Influenced by my longtime love of Tim Burton’s filmography - dating back to the 1984 Frankenweenie - and guided by Disney’s branding standards and existing assets, I incorporated elements of Burton’s signature style, including stripes, spirals, and custom typography, to evoke the dark whimsy that defines his world.
Reflections
This project was both a professional highlight. It allowed me to merge my expertise with a creative universe that has inspired me for decades. The result is a book that feels true to Burton’s visual identity and offers readers a satisfying experience.
